Blow By Blow

BlowSearch and the CPV product. I actually posted favorably about these guys today and by the afternoon I am handed our weekly spend which included their new Cost Per View for the first time (which our rep had told us would not run more than $10 or so).

And there it was: $1,240 for the week from BlowSearch...

we get 200 clicks for around $10 with their PPC and all the bells and whistles make this a tight buy that converts well.....

But CPV gave us 240,913 impressions.... now here is the rub....

Our tracking only counted 91,224 impressions ....

Spoke to them but was told they do not consider third party tracking valid... so I guess that was a quick flush and another small engine gets written off the list.

It's a pity since I really like their aggressive technology and the features I had blogged about earlier in the day. Even always stop by and say hello at the conferences....

No longer will they be mygeek....

  1. Frank,

I wanted you to know that your post was brought to my attention by the Team here at BlowSearch this afternoon and we're taking action to get the situation resolved.

I wanted to make absolutely clear that the conversation you had was with an employee of MyGeek, our PPC backend partner, not one of our employees here at BlowSearch. I can assure you had it been one of our employees that individual would be dealing with one seriously pissed of SVP of Marketing. Why? You're absolutely right. We've worked hard to bring things to market to get advertisers excited and differentiate ourselves from the rest of the industry. I don't take lightly to having that message corrupted in any way, shape, or form.

Now, with that being said, please understand that third party tracking bears no influence for any of the PPC engines in making decisions. Third party stats are usually inaccurate (sometimes highly inaccurate) depending on which one is used. There's delays from server to server that cannot be accounted for by 3rd party stats and discrepancies will always exist. I know your posts well enough from the various webmaster boards out there such as ThreadWatch and WMW. I also know you're a knowledgeable guy. I'm not telling you anything about 3rd party stats that you don't know already. We have 1st party data. That's what we have to go by. Every engine is the same in that respect.

REGARDLESS, the stats should be somewhat close to each other unless there was a server or tracking related issue taking place. This is currently being looked into. Your man, Herve, is working with our team to get to the bottom of it.

Thanks for letting us know about this. Granted I'd rather have heard about it from you before seeing it on your blog but either way it's just as important. We're a phone call away and we're happy to do what we can to help. Unlike some PPC's we do believe in personal service and you can always get me or anyone else on the phone to answer questions. Small advertiser or large is no different. All advertisers are equal here. We can't make 100% of the people happy 100% of the time but we go great lengths and try our best.

Bottom line is this, if you're not happy with the resolution then neither am I. We'll work to get it right so we can all be assured of a good working relationship moving forward.

    Joe Holcomb
    SVP of Marketing
